LUMINESCENCE
LUMINESCENCE was created in 2004 as paper with ultimate whiteness.
Designer Keiko Hirano handled the concept-making, direction, and naming for this project, attempting to produce a white that had never before been achieved with fine paper.
To bring out a natural white, a small number of paper pulps ideally suited to whiteness were painstakingly selected from the several hundred available. The manufacturing process was then modified to eliminate the slightest impurity, enabling the production of an extremely white paper. The resulting acid-free uncoated paper is dense and has a smooth surface, ensuring accurate reproduction when printing.
The search for the ultimate in whiteness led eventually to two solutions - an immaculate “neutral white” and a “maximum white” that has a dignified gleam.
