The TAKEO Prize, established as one of the projects to mark TAKEO’s centennial, is intended to encourage and honor those working to develop and provide deeper insight into the visual communication field.
Beginning in 2002, the First Stage TAKEO Prize project solicited candidates for a Design History Paper division (1st-5th) and a Design Criticism division (4th, 5th). Entrants submitted a large number of high quality academic papers and stimulating examples of criticism.
From the 6th TAKEO Prize in 2008, the Second Stage project instituted two divisions-Design Publications, Design Criticism-selecting and awarding the TAKEO Prize for those two areas.

Works that have won the TAKEO Prize can be seen at MIHONCHO HONTEN.
