Feature in December 2022 issue of "BRAIN"
Brain is a specialist magazine for creatives published by Sendenkaigi.
Its occasional "Book Jacket: Senses" feature is made possible through
collaborations with creators using fine paper.
Each issue of the magazine that features this popular project includes
a book jacket/cover made with a different type of fine paper.
Moe Furuya appears in the December 2022 edition.
The paper she uses is UNITEX GA.
Book Jacket: Senses - Vol. 62
The December issue of Brain is now available at bookstores nationwide.
Moe Furuya states that the feel of embossed paper reminded him of the clean feel of wallpaper
at a new condominium. Taking the opposite approach, he placed on the book jacket a fly,
an unclean thing that you wouldn’t want to be on your book jacket. As indicated by the title,
the book jacket expresses two situations—one with a book containing information so old
and stale that it attracts flies and another with a reader so absorbed in the book
that he doesn’t even notice the fly—while also conveying the tacit message
that the world is a stifling place if it can’t even tolerate the presence of a mere fly.

Furuya chose Unitex GA in three colors—medium gray, rose, and citron—for the paper,
printed the fly over white ink using four colors, and rendered the wings using transparent
holographic foil stamping, causing them to shine dimly when the reader changes his angle of view.
He also made the fly seem more real by using embossing to raise its entire body.
