This show exhibits ideas for a new approach to Japanese bookbinding for the Reiwa Era,
made using Japanese-style fine paper by members of the Society of Publishing Arts.
Twenty waka poems from the Manyoshu, the inspiration behind the choice of the
name Reiwa for the new Japanese era that began in 2019, were selected.
For each poem, a book designer and cover designer collaborated to make
a sample of a Manyoshu illustration book, presenting an illustration and the poem page.
Enjoy the wide variety of book cover and book designs along with the paper used for these waka poems.
* This exhibition will be held at the same time as the "Books, Bindings, and A.I.U.E.O." exhibition
sponsored by the Kansai Branch of the Japan Book Designers Association.
